The British Virgin Islands (BVI), formally the Virgin Islands, are a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean, located to the east of Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands and to the northwest of Anguilla. The islands are situated in the Leeward Islands of the Lesser Antilles and are physically part of the Virgin Islands archipelago.

Employers may terminate an employee's employment contract by giving the employee written notice. Special regulations apply in the case of collective dismissals or if the employee is a union member.
The notice period begins at the pay interval and years of service and increases to two months based on the length of service of the employee. No notice is required, however, if the employee is being terminated for misconduct.
There are no provisions in the labor laws specifically tailored to probationary periods in the British Virgin Islands.
Severance pay shall be three-quarters of a day's pay, or nine days' pay per year for each month of the employee's employment period. The pay rate is determined by the employee's base salary.
The standard workweek is 40 hours, divided into five eight-hour days.
Overtime is restricted to a maximum of four hours per day. Employees are entitled to overtime pay. Generally, compensation is set at 150 percent of the employee's regular wage.
The minimum wage in the British Virgin Islands is $6 per hour.
